I am in my mid sixties and have been painting for 16 years since taking early retirement from local government. Apart from a two year local watercolour class, I am self taught. I like to explore different media and techniques, which is what keeps my interest and passion for art.
Media used: Acrylic paints and inks, watercolour, silk paints and oils
My painting techniques: For some areas I like to use cotton rag when painting in acrylics and oils, …..skies seem so much easier, as I can blend or make marks, with a flat surface or a fold in the material.
I use Neo 1 pastel and Neo 2 oil pastel over acrylics in mixed media work.
In 2008 I began painting on silk, my subject base coming from holiday scenes abroad and flowers. My recent work incorporates paper collage underneath the silk to give it an extra dimension. I intend experimenting further with acrylic inks on the mount board before I mount my silk paintings.
My favourite subjects: Anything that interests me and makes me want to paint.
Exhibitions, past, present: I have exhibited and sold work at the Great Sheffield Art Show and at South Yorkshire Open Art exhibitions at the Copper Gallery in Barnsley.
I am a member of a group of eight artists called ‘ART BUDDIES’. Over the last few years we have raised money for Macmillan Cancer Relief, as a fringe venue during Holmfirth Artweek.
My favourite artists: Mike Bernard for his fabulous mixed media paintings. Paul Gaugan for his exotic subjects and colours and Rolina van Vliet for her vivid energetic abstracts.
My top painting tip: Old fashioned nutcracker tongs for taking the tops off tubes of acrylic paints!
Admittance to the exhibition is free. Any donations to the upkeep of the chapel will be greatly appreciated.
